WHAT TO EXPECT IN PORN TRENDS FOR 2018

It looks like this year will be the one where women catch up to men in porn site traffic. The huge leap in percentage cannot be overlooked by any savvy marketer.

PORNHUB’S YEAR IN REVIEW

Pornhub is ranked 23rd as the most searched for site in New Zealand according to alexa.com. No other porn site comes in the top 50. Newzealandgirls.co.nz are ranked 18th, and while the photographs on that site are extremely titillating, it cannot be categorised as a true porn site.

In New Zealand last year, more than 30 per cent of Pornhub’s users were women. The top trending porn search for 2017 was “Porn for Women” and that is an increase of more than 1400 percent up from the previous year.

If anything close to those numbers are reached again this year, it will place female use of the major porn site on an equal footing with the men. The most popular male name searches with women were Jordi “El Nino” Polla, Mandingo and Johnny Sins. It is safe to say that any product linked to those names would catch the notice of the viewer.

THE TOP MOST-VIEWED CATEGORIES

In the top eight most-viewed categories by both sexes on Porhhub last year were lesbian, MILF’s, ebony, Hentai (for those of you who have to look it up like me, it means “perverse sex” in Japanese), anal, big boobs, threesomes and big dick.

Pornhub has a Sexual Wellness Centre and the therapist who extrapolates from the data available to it says it shows that women are now more empowered in every aspect of their lives. It seems set that 2018 will be the year when women come forward and express needs and desires more openly.

LESBIAN LEANINGS

Lesbian porn ticks all the boxes for both men and women. It has been Fantasy Number One for men since history began. For men who realise the complications of trying a lesbian threesome out in real life, the porn option is the ideal way for a man to live out this fantasy.

With women who have a soft fantasy curiosity, lesbian porn is an ideal “gateway” for them to try out a porn viewing without feeling too extreme. Keeping the Kinsey Bell Curve graph in mind (Zero being totally straight and Six being gay) there are a bulky portion of “Threes” or bi-sexuals out there who are needing their sexual needs and curiosities serviced by porn just like anyone else.

BIGGER IS NOT NECESSARILY BETTER

In 2017, 67 per cent of Pornhub users used smartphones to watch their porn. Only 11 per cent used the Internet Explorer. It seems clear that the porn viewer is happy with images on a smaller screen so bare this in mind when thinking about signage. No one is going to reach for their reading glasses to read tiny lettering.

The most important take-away from the data is that porn viewing in New Zealand is definitely on the way to becoming mainstream and acceptable. It will follow that any product that is viewed on a porn site will be seen as a lifestyle enhancement rather than a secret, possibly shameful purchase. The porn audience are eager to access what brings them pleasure and a well-placed vibrator advertisement next to lesbian footage using one is sure to stimulate the viewers appetite for more.
